Excited? – but also dreading your move? Moving can definitely be an exciting experience, however it also comes with a fair amount of stress as well. Especially if you are unorganised.
Whether you are moving house from one side of town to another or from one side of the country to another there are several steps you can take to make you moving day way less stressful than it needs to be.
Be careful those who happen to be downsizing. You may want to rethink the amount of furniture you are taking to your new property. Realise that a 4 bedroom house will be very different with the same amount of furniture in it than a 2 bedroom house may look.
Buy moving boxes in plenty of time before the move and dont wait till 2 days before moving day to start packing. Otherwise hire the moving company to pack for you. A little more expensive however definitely eliminates a huge part of the moving process of your hands.
Have small children? Or pets? Moving day may be easier for you organising care for them beforehand.
Unless you are doing your move yourself, hire a moving company that you trust. Make sure you feel comfortable with them and you can call them for advice any time you need to.
Notify banks, post office, friends and family of your new address and take a gas and meter reading before you leave your old property.
You also want to be there on moving day if possible. When belongings are all packed in moving van, check gas and electricity is all turned off, windows are closed etc, and that nothing is left behind. It would also be a good idea to be at your new property making sure all your belongings go into the room of your choice in your new property.
